Oriol Homs, Director General de CIREM, Rabat, dimarts 22 febrer 2011.

On the historic moment being lived in the countries of the Maghreb

Those CIREM Foundation teams intervening in projects in countries of the Maghreb have transmitted to us the collective feeling of those countries’ youth that they are the protagonists of this historic moment. This strengthens their pride in contributing from the Arab world to a new global wave of democratisation with its own style, characterised by the use of new technologies and social networks.

It is a dual feeling of hope and change, but also of uncertainty about what the future holds in store. The universal perception is that everything is moving very rapidly, that events are accelerating and that the future remains very open.

Spain and Europe need to make a clear commitment to supporting the process. It might be useful for us to remember what we expected of Europe in the early moments of our own transition to democracy in 1975.
