Meta-analysis of gender and science research is a project of the 7th RTD Framework programme of the European Union, commissioned by the European Commission to a consortium led by the Cirem Foundation. Maria Caprile, director of the Work and Social Policies area in the foundation is the director of this study.
The research will finalize in 2010. More than 50 recognised experts in issues of gender and science from all the countries of the European Union and those associated with the Seventh Framework will participate. The Scientific Steering Committee consists of the following members: Francesca Bettio, Dóra Groo, Eleanor Tabi Haller-Jorden, Ineke Klinge, Pilar López Sancho, Martine Lumbreras, Mary Osborn, Teresa Torns, Londa Schiebinger, Imrgard Schultz and Sylvia Walby.

The main objectives of the study are to:
- Provide an exhaustive overview and analysis of all research carried out on gender and science at European, national and regional levels.
- Make the study results accessible to researchers and policy-makers via publishable reports and an informed bibliography available in a database (the Gender and Science Database, GSD).
- Steer policy-making on gender and science in the years to come and define future research priorities within the 7th Framework Programme, in particular through good practice examples and gap analysis in the various research topics.
