Gender and ICT, Presence, Position and Politics
This book, edited by Professor Cecilia Castaño, takes up a problem whose importance has not been receiving the recognition it is due-- the scarcity of women in fields related to information and communication technologies. There is a tendency to believe that there are enough women in these areas already, and if no more enter it is because the field does not appeal to them. It is thought that once today’s generation of girls enter the field, there will be complete equality. Women working in the sector, however, feel on the contrary that there are still important barriers, such as the difficulty of reconciling work and family life and the persistence of gender stereotypes. Maria Caprile, director of the Work and Social Policies area of CIREM, co-authored, together with Cecilia Castaño, several of the chapters of the book.
