What we do

CIREM - Centre for European Investigation and Research in the Mediterranean Region - is a private not-for-profit foundation dedicated to applied research and consultancy in the field of social sciences. 

Since it began its operation in 1989, it has been defined as an independent centre. It was created with a clear Mediterranean profile and with the objective of promoting a deeper understanding of the specific characteristics of those societies within Europe as a whole.

CIREM Foundation is governed by a Board made up of important personalities from society from the academic world, companies, unions and the professional field.

CIREM Foundation operates in five areas:

• Employment, the labour market and training systems
• Organisations and human capital
• Cities and territory
• Cohesion and social inequalities
• Technical support for co-operation and development

 … that it develops through applied research and technical support from three centres: Barcelona Centre, International Centre and Madrid Centre.

On the other hand, these centres receive the support of the Documentation Centre which in addition to providing internal knowledge management, is open to anybody and any institution with an interest in consulting its document resource.

Similarly, there is a Shared Management Unit responsible for administration and general services.

CIREM Group was constituted in 1999, as a group of entities with the objective of coordinating strategies and working in a global context from their different fields.

The Group is made up of: 

• CIREM Foundation, dedicated to developing studies and consultancy in the area of social sciences. 

• FIAS (the Innovation Foundation for Social Action) - specialising in the promotion and execution of innovative activities to encourage the well-being of the population, and in the search for new forms of participation. 

• PROXIMS SERVEIS A DOMICILI – a placement company whose objective is to meet the growing demand for new personal support services.
